Whittier Dog Park Task Force Update

May 2024

At our April 23, 2024, HOA meeting, the Whittier Directors made an exciting decision that could lead to a new amenity for our community—a Dog Park. The Directors voted to approve the formation of a Task Force specifically focused on exploring this possibility, with HOA Director Jackie Parks taking the lead as the head of the Whittier Dog Park Task Force.

Meet the Task Force Members

We are grateful to the dedicated Whittier community residents who have volunteered their time and expertise to join this Task Force. A special thank you goes to Erika Camargo, Michael Stiegler, Natalie Bush, Patrick Berry, Royale Kidwell, and Sean M. Fitzgerald, Esq., along with HOA Directors Beth Hoover and Sally Hoague, for stepping up to help with this important work.

Scope of the Task Force’s Work

The Whittier Dog Park Task Force has been tasked with a comprehensive set of objectives. Their work will involve exploring the overall feasibility of a Dog Park in our community, assessing both the pros and cons, and identifying a suitable location. Additionally, they will delve into the legal liabilities and ramifications that come with establishing a Dog Park and work on finding an interim solution that would allow dogs to run off-leash during the planning and implementation phases.

First Meeting and Next Steps

The Task Force held its first meeting on May 6, 2024, where members engaged in a productive discussion that laid the groundwork for the project. One of the key outcomes from this meeting was the gathering of information to present to the City Representative, who has agreed to meet with the Task Force.

We are pleased to announce that this meeting with the City Representative has been officially scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 2024. This meeting marks a significant step forward in our efforts to bring a Dog Park to Whittier.

We will continue to keep the community updated on the progress of the Task Force and any developments regarding the potential Dog Park. Stay tuned for more information as we work together to enhance our neighborhood with this new feature!
