Have you ever driven by the Daybreak Adult Day Services sign at 7819 Rocky Springs Rd. and wondered “what is that place”? Or maybe you have seen one of our buses cruising through the neighborhood or in other areas of the county?

Daybreak is an “adult medical day care center”. We are licensed and regulated by the State of Maryland and provide services to up to 70 participants a day. The people that we serve are primarily senior citizens with age-related challenges, such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, diabetes, and depression. All of them live in the community, most with family, and come to us just for the day. They are typically folks who may not be safe to be home alone while the family works or does errands, need help getting around, or are just lonely and can’t get out without help. They attend on a regular schedule of at least two days a week, with no long term commitment required. As a not-for-profit, we are able to offer subsidized rates and work hard to not to turn anyone away for inability to pay.

We provide door to door escorted transportation to and from the center, a continental breakfast on arrival, a hot hearty lunch, and then a midday snack before departure. In between all of the eating is plenty of fun. There is lots of socializing and laughter, dynamic activities designed to stimulate the brain and body, including music, exercise, crafts, entertainers, and so much more. All of this occurs under the watchful eye of registered nurses and support staff. While not all of our participants need the nurses on a regular basis, they are there keeping an eye on things, catching little problems before they become big, and offering guidance and information to both the participants as well as their caregivers.

In fact, supporting caregivers is a huge part of what we do. Not only do they get a physical break from their caregiving responsibilities when their loved one comes to Daybreak, but they gain the expertise and support of our staff which includes social workers, nurses, and activity staff. We are here to listen, to educate, advise, and support. We also have a wonderful caregiver support group, which is open to the public, that meets monthly.
